Meet the multi-talented, multi-hyphenated theatre professional, Amy Jones. In whichever capacity colleagues meet Amy – director, choreographer, musical director, vocal coach – they are always confident that they are seeing her best side. Time and again, as Amy happily roams between the major disciplines of creative theatre, audiences and producers alike are delighted by her myriad talents.
Amy began to tell stories through music as a member of a professional ballet company and Piano Performance major in college. In graduate school, Amy mastered an interdisciplinary program in Dance, Drama, and Music. Her career has followed the ideals behind the best of musical theatre: Use the power of music and dance to enhance the story, and create a magical world onstage.
Amy is adept at directing broad comedy (Beau Jest), period musicals (Swingtime Canteen, Oil City Symphony), and classics (The Sound of Music). Her choreography ranges from fast-paced tap-dancing (Thoroughly Modern Millie) to barn-raising country (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) to sensually Spanish (Man of La Mancha). As a music director and vocal coach, Amy knows to coach her casts and students to convey powerful emotion through song.
Amy’s path has now ventured to development of new work, where she thrives in the collaborative effort of creating a project from scratch. She has several original works in various stages of development and loves the process of crafting the next great piece of live theatre.
If you have a new work that is seeking a nurturing Director with a practiced eye, do reach out to Amy to explore possibilities together.
